What You’ll Do
We are thrilled to present an internship opportunity for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in Fitness Facility Management and Wellness Program Support. This position is crafted to offer a comprehensive understanding of day-to-day fitness facility operations, project management, on-the-job training, and professional development in fields such as Sports Science, Recreation Management, Corporate Wellness, Physical Fitness, and Rehabilitation.
As an intern you will have the opportunity to:
Gain hands-on experience in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a fitness facility including scheduling and conducting fitness classes, learning and instructing equipment maintenance and safety procedures, conducting facility tours, and managing facility bookings
Gain the ability to plan and implement a specific project by reviewing the current locker management system, proposing and implementing improvements to the system, and creating informational materials for members about new locker policies
Implement your coursework into real-world experience by collaborating with fitness instructors to understand class planning and execution, shadowing wellness programs, working with personal trainers, and analyzing data about facility and wellness program usage
Explore various career paths within the wellness and fitness industry by participating in workshops and webinars, and networking within the fitness and wellness community
Showcase what you’ve learned by compiling a summary of your experiences, creating a presentation to share insights and project outcomes, and presenting to staff or stakeholders as a concluding activity
Familiarize yourself with organizational and administrative tasks such as inputting member information into the database, updating attendance records for fitness classes, maintaining accurate inventory records for fitness equipment, organizing physical and digital files, creating a filing system for membership records, and implementing document retention policies
What You’ll Bring
Our ideal candidate will have:
Interest in fields such as sports/exercise science, recreation management, corporate wellness, physical fitness, and rehabilitation
Customer service skills to interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner
Basic Microsoft Excel and SharePoint skills
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in physical therapy, sports/exercise science, recreation management, mental health and wellness, or another related field, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion)
Experience: None
Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model with a required minimum of three days in office. Employees work where needed to support business, at the Denver International Airport. We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.
Internship Duration and Hours
This is a 1-year college internship with a completion date of Friday, May 2nd, 2025, with a maximum of 30 hours per week. The workload will align with typical college internship standards, depending on the intern's academic schedule and any specific requirements from their academic program. This structure aims to provide a comprehensive experience while allowing balance to academic commitments.
FBI Background Check
FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
