GENERAL FUNCTION
The YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is seeking an organized and motivated individual to lead and support our Group Exercise department. Under the direction of the Fitness Director, the Group Exercise Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a culture of teamwork, support, and excellence among instructors and participants. This position is responsible for overseeing group exercise programming, ensuring high-quality instruction, coordinating schedules, and building strong relationships within the Y community. The role requires administrative leadership as well as active participation in class instruction and instructor support.
This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling, including potential nights and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program Coordination & Development
- Assist the Fitness Director in developing and maintaining a well-balanced group exercise schedule.
- Ensure classes are led by trained, qualified instructors and provide substitute coverage as needed.
- Monitor class participation and adjust programming to align with member needs and trends.
- Instructor Leadership & Support
- Assist with recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating group exercise instructors.
- Foster a positive and collaborative environment that encourages professional development and teamwork.
- Serve as the main point of contact for instructor concerns and provide ongoing support.
- Member Engagement & Experience
- Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all members, fostering community and retention.
- Proactively engage with members to gather feedback and improve the group exercise experience.
- Promote participation and encourage members to explore different class offerings.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain attendance records and track class participation for ongoing evaluation.
- Communicate effectively with staff and members using email and other appropriate channels.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings as required by the Fitness Director.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all group exercise areas are safe, clean, and properly maintained.
- Follow and enforce all YMCA policies, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Act as a role model by upholding the YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.
- Teaching & Substituting
- Lead group exercise classes as needed.
- Step in as a substitute instructor when necessary to maintain programming continuity.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least 21 years old.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in fitness instruction, including leading group exercise classes.
- Nationally recognized certification in Group Exercise or a specialty area (e.g., Group Exercise, Cycling, Yoga, etc.) is required.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a passion for health and wellness.

Job Title: Group Exercise Coordinator (Part-Time)
FLSA Status: Part-Time Hourly, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $11.00 - $15.00 per hour for administrative work (Higher hourly wages apply when teaching or subbing classes.)
