Hybrid, 3 days onsite 2 days remote for administrative work.

Job Summary

Work as part of the Living Well unit within the Department of Campus Recreation and Unions under the Assistant Director for Living Well. Develop, implement and manage programs including but not limited to Personal Training, Group Exercise, Instructional Classes, Senior Fitness, ACE preparatory classes, other programs for students, staff and faculty, and the day-to-day operation of the Living Well Center. Wellness and health education programs include health promotion, disease and injury prevention, nutrition, stress management, eating disorders, body image and self-esteem, and other wellness topics.

Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness and recreation programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: The Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), Pavilion, Living Well Program, Rec Sports, Sports Clubs, Equestrian Center, Craft Center, Aquatics Program, Youth Programs, and the Cal Aggie Marching Band. Campus Recreation’s mission is to benefit the campus community by promoting wellness, encouraging student and staff development, fostering diversity and developing supportive partnerships.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Current certification from; American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE) or Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) certification(s), or National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training.
  • Experience developing, implementing and assessing fitness and wellness programs in a university setting including knowledge of group exercise, training principles, course certifications, risk management, equipment purchasing used in classes and experience recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating instructors to teach courses and/or work for the department.
  • Customer service, communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patrons, colleagues, professionals, and administrators as well as experience in providing oral presentations to large groups to facilitate group discussion and educational programs.
  • Knowledge of issues and trends associated with fitness and wellness, including but not limited to positive fitness and wellness behaviors, nutrition, body image, stress reduction, eating disorders, weight training techniques, and dance, martial arts and mind body instructional classes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse students, staff, faculty, and others in the university community.
  • Skills to use computer hardware and software to write reports, prepare promotional materials, manage reservations systems, update website, maintain reports and spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training.
  • Understanding of budget principles and revenue development.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple programs, materials, information, and people to maximize resources and achieve optimal efficiencies.
