Marana Aquatic and Recreation Center - Fitness Instructor

The Town of Marana is seeking Fitness Instructors to work in the Parks and Recreation Department. This short-term temporary position is an exciting opportunity for a fitness professional interested in inspiring and engaging the community in health and wellness at the new Marana Aquatics and Recreation Center. To be considered for this position, all applicants must complete the Town of Marana application form in its entirety online at https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/marana. 

Pursuant to the Marana Town Code, Sections 3-1-2(D) and 3-1-3(B), and the current Salary Schedule implemented by the Town Manager, the position of Fitness Instructor is defined as an Unclassified position.  Unclassified positions are at-will employees and employment that may be terminated upon the will of the employer or employee at any time with or without cause.  

Hiring Rate: 

Level 1 = $19

Level 2 = $21

Level 3 = $23

Level 4 = $25

At least one (1) certification and a minimum of four (4) points are required to meet the minimum qualifications for this role at a Level 1 pay rate. • Teaches scheduled classes and instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
• Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
• Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
• Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
• Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.

• High school diploma or GED equivalency plus six months of additional education or training

• Over six months experience as a fitness instructor, personal trainer, or in a related field.
• Fitness instructor certification (certification must be attached to this application)

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

• Valid Arizona Driver License
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and a 25-pound lift test
• Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Additional specialty/certifications are preferred.
