
Spring Lake Village – Wellness Program Coordinator – Older Adult Fitness Specialist
Job SummaryResponsible for coordinating, planning, promoting and facilitating health and fitness activities and programs for the residents and employees.
Essential Functions
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
· Coordinates, plans, and facilitates health and fitness activities and programs for residents and employees.
· Promotes the 8 dimensions of wellness (physical, social, emotional, spiritual, occupational, financial, environmental, and intellectual).
· Develops promotion and publicity plans for wellness and fitness programs throughout the organization.
· Compiles statistical summaries of participant data, class attendance, and equipment inventories to ensure proper detailed program evaluation.
· Provides accurate documentation for each resident on caseload, including resident’s health history, health metrics, fitness and balance assessments, exercise prescriptions and exercise participation.
· Encourages individual residents to participate in their own wellness plan and assists in the development of that plan, recommending appropriate wellness /exercise classes and developing individualized exercise programs to meet their goals. Provides ongoing monitoring and updating of fitness programs as needed.
· Teaches and subs for a variety of exercise classes emphasizing strength, endurance, balance and flexibility for older adults of all functional levels.
· Provides quality Customer Service efficiently to residents, families, co-workers and vendors in a manner to ensure satisfaction.
· Works closely with all departments associated with activity programs.
· Ensures active collaboration with outside community organizations to enhance programming.
· Coordinates resident and volunteers needed for Wellness programming.
· Is able to operate the appropriate technical equipment necessary to running a comprehensive Wellness Program.
· Use computer, office, adaptive and various recreation program equipment and supplies.
· Follows department safety standards, practice body mechanic techniques and participate in campus-wide safety programs.
· Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Wears PPE/safety equipment as required for the job. Reports any safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisor.
· Attends all mandatory meetings and in-services as required by the Executive Director.
Job Requirements & Qualifications

· Bachelor’s level degree, preferably in exercises science related major – physical therapy, kinesiology, athletic training, physical education, health education, etc.
· Personal trainer certification, preferably with ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NASM
· Thorough understanding of physiology and psychology of aging
· Knowledge regarding injuries common to older adults and injury prevention
· Ability to instruct and motivate both individuals and groups
· 3+ years of experience working with older adults
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
· Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently; must be able to organize thoughts in a clear manner, effective oral and written communication skills; must possess public speaking skills; must be an active listener and possess conflict resolution/problem solving skills.
· Must be able to identify situations in which immediate action should be taken and determine which situations need or require additional assistance and/or information. Must display appropriate decision-making skills.
· Awareness and knowledge of the aging process and its effect on our residents; awareness of community resources available; certifications recommended are CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Certification. Must have a valid California Driver’s license.
